Synnovis is a partnership between SYNLAB UK & Ireland, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The organisation brings together the very best in clinical, scientific and operational expertise, and displays in action, science for life, collaboration for the benefit of everyone, and innovation and quality.
As well as delivering pathology services and in line with the NHS’s own clinical vision and strategy, Synnovis is responsible for transforming existing hospital-based laboratory and diagnostic services into an integrated ‘hub and spoke’ pathology network for South East London.
We collaborated with Synnovis’s project team to design and create several multi-functional spaces for their new South London Integrated Pathology testing laboratory at Friars Bridge Court, in Blackfriars Road, London. This state-of-the-art ‘hub’ is one of the largest, purpose-built pathology laboratories in the UK, designed to meet the needs of modern-day healthcare services and brings cutting-edge instrumentation, technology and innovation together under one roof.
Following site visits and a business review, we developed initial concepts that we further developed with visuals to present the scheme to the wider Synnovis staff. Finally, showroom visits helped to determine key elements for selection such as staff lockers and public reception, and lounge furniture.
These agile spaces support the multi-floor laboratory function of the site, providing breakout, meeting and write-up areas beyond the laboratories.
