Poul Kjærholm PK23™
01.12.24
Poul Kjærholm conceptualised the PK23™ in 1954.
Wide and low in form with a distinctive split-seat design, the vertical divide is a visually striking and innovative element that adds a unique aesthetic touch. Its sculptural form invites one to linger in repose while standing out as an exceptionally modern design still relevant seventy years after its original conception.
Originally designed as a conversational chair for lounge areas, it did not make it beyond sketches at the time. Kjærholm’s wife, Hanne Kjærholm, later approved a prototype of the PK23 for an exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, and now Fritz Hansen brings it into full production for the first time. The chair’s back and seat comprise laminated veneer shells, while the base is made of either stainless steel or black powder-coated steel. This work bridges Kjærholm’s early works with his later minimalist designs, making it a versatile addition to both classic and contemporary interiors.
This highly collectable piece, produced by Fritz Hansen for the first time 70 years after its original conception, is available to order now. Initially offered in three veneers, the chair will also be available with front upholstery during 2025.
